Library celebrates National Library Card Sign-up Month with three new card designs for adults
Pick a card, any card — any of the three new library card designs for adults, that is. The three winning entries of our library card contest debuted as part of the Forsyth County Public Library’s monthlong celebration of Library Card Sign-up month.
More than 50 people entered the contest, and Forsyth County Public Library staff picked three winners from an impressive crop of entries.
"It was a hard decision to make," said Nan Larosee, assistant library director. "There were so many inspiring designs. We loved the enthusiasm and creativity from people who love the library."
Lizzie LaMarca’s design features a colorful shelf of books, a plant, and a cozy cup of coffee. An anonymous winner’s design is a nostalgic due date card, and a shelf of antique leather-bound books was drawn by Ayla Perkins.
The intersection of art and the library led to two winners’ entries in the contest. Both LaMarca and Perkins have had their art on view at the Forsyth County Central Library’s second-floor gallery.
"Libraries are crazy important! I love them so much," said LaMarca. "I visited Southside a lot when I first moved here. I was printing things every day. Everyone was so nice!"
Perkins shares LaMarca’s feelings about the library. "Everyone is immediately friendly. The Central Library is one of the first places I visited downtown. It’s so bright and open."
Our third winner says her love of reading came later in life. "Reading helps me relax after a long workday and escape reality for a little while."
Forsyth County Public Library cards are free to anyone who meets the eligibility requirements, and existing cardholders who are adults can swap out their current cards for new designs at no charge.
